Payal Khandwala opened a new store in Bandra and the clothes aren’t the only thing we’re loving.
Sure, the collection is fantastic, but what we also can’t help but admire the two-story bungalow designed by Khandwala herself. From the carbon-stained cement walls to the Wenge flooring, even the furniture was custom made to fit the boutique’s quaint aesthetic. This is actually the designer’s second boutique (their flagship store is in Colaba). The walls of Colaba’s boutique are embellished with flying peacocks, but Payal wanted to maintain the essence of Bandra’s Koli community so she had lotus murals hand painted onto the gold and silver leaf walls to create a stark and contemporary, yet organic environment.
The first floor showcases their entire range of pleated shapes along with their festive limited-edition pieces made of intricate brocades, handwoven silk saris and dupattas—so many of which our favourite Bollywood stars have been dazzling in.
Khandwala’s classic and distinct colour blocked silhouettes are displayed beautifully on the ground floor of the bungalow. While you’re there, don’t forget to check out the brass and leather accessories from sister brand, Tachi.
We’re so excited that Khandwala’s designs are in our headquarter’s own hood. Have you visited the Bandra boutique? What did you think?
