While most other designers are busy organizing sneak-peeks of their Lakme Fashion Week collections, designer Shruti Sancheti has scored a coup by having A-list actress Vidya Balan wear an outfit from her Saaj collection (to be debuted on the ramp on 26th August) at a press conference to announce the recently held India Day Parade in New York.
The India Day Parade is a celebration of India’s independence by the expats in the USA and Vidya had the honour of being chosen as their Grand Marshall this year.
Says Shruti Sancheti, “This ensemble is one of the key looks from the Winter / Festive Saaj collection. It is a layered look comprising of a woven crimson floor length anarkali with Maharashtrian weaves such as rasta and shahpuri borders. The anarkali is teamed with a woven check asymmetrical jacket in pink with a paithani inspired hand embroidered bodice. The tassels are hand crafted in the shape of the traditional Maharashtrian nath (nose ring).
On dressing Vidya for this prestigious occasion, Shruti tells us, “Vidya is a very simple and no-fuss person to work with. It was a pleasure dressing her in this outfit. She was absolutely convinced even before trying it and the look was kept simple with a neat, tied up hairdo. The he best thing is she is the first one to wear a piece from the new collection.”
