Friday night was a big night for Bollywood. It was the Filmfare Awards‘ night and that means a glittering red carpet, some power-packed performances, witty hosting and of course, the honours. While we’ve already shared the winners’ list with you, we know you’re just waiting to know who wore what to this bedazzling affair. The wait is over as we’ve got all the deets on what the women were decked out in on the red carpet.
Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone walked away with the Best Actress title. She was easily one of the best dressed of the night as well. She chose a Gaurav Gupta gown, a less risqué version in another colour than the one we spotted at the Golden Globes and paired it with Amrapali jewellery. Vintage Hollywood style hair and gold pumps rounded off her look.
Priyanka Chopra
Hostess for the night, Priyanka Chopra was also dressed in a black strapless gown, like the statuette. Styled by Ami Patel, she wore a pre spring/summer ’14 Alexander McQueen gown and custom-made Atelier Mon earrings. Her hair was kept short and pinned to one side. Can we also take a minute to acknowledge how slim PC is? I really liked her look.
Vaani Kapoor
Vaani Kapoor won the award for Best Female Debut, and I thought her debut on the Filmfare Awards’ red carpet was equally smashing. Not only was she wearing the colour of the year (radiant orchid) but she also showed off her figure in a cut-out detail Nikhil Thampi gown. An updo, long earrings from Manish Arora for Amrapali and stacked cuffs finished off her look.
Kajol
Kajol‘s choice was a less formal printed Nandita Mahtani gown. She paired the outfit with Swarovski earrings and a Pinky Saraf clutch. The hair was styled in loose curls and the make-up was quite natural. She seemed a little carefree in comparison with everyone who’d dressed to their nines.
Preity Zinta
Preity Zinta has always done well in the style department, fitting in with the nature of the event. The petite actress stood tall in a one-shouldered Gauri and Nainika gown with a big bow motif. The hairstyling was classic and so was the jewellery.
Shruti Haasan
Shruti Haasan picked a sleek black Gauri and Nainika gown with a high neck. The earrings were long and her hair was tied in a top knot. While she looked slender, there wasn’t anything about her look that stood out for me.
Soha Ali Khan
Soha Ali Khan posed alongside boyfriend Kunal Kemmu in a strapless Ken Ferns gown that had gold accents. She wore earrings and rings from Aquamarine and carried a Pinky Saraf clutch. She was styled by Esha Amin. Her long hair was swept to one side and she looked quite elegant.
Ileana D’Cruz
Ileana D’Cruz also stuck to black in an Emilio Pucci gown with lace sleeves and lace panels running through the sides. Ami Patel gave her custom Atelier Mon earrings as well. With the red lips, it could have been a hit combination, but it’s not working for me.
Pallavi Sharda
Pallavi Sharda flaunted her back in an ABS by Allen Schwartz gown with zipper detail. It was a simple look and she opted for smokey eyes by way of make-up. I think it’s a clean look and works on her.
Aditi Rao HYDari
You can only concentrate on the details of Aditi Rao Hydari‘s outfit after your eyes have recovered from the silver flashes. While the Gaurav Gupta gown is alright, she overdid it with the hair-band, updo and glittering silver sandals. There should’ve been something to tone down the colour.
Huma Qureshi
Is it just me or does this ruffled Gauri and Nainika gown make Huma Qureshi look fuller than she is? The colour is vibrant but this look is strictly okay.
Tammanah
Tammanah walked the red carpet in a bright red Gauri and Nainika gown. I love the gown. It’s well-cut and the trail adds the right amount of drama. She was also styled by Ami Patel and wore House of Chic accessories.
Prachi Desai
What is that Prachi Desai is wearing? Nothing about that gown works other than the colour. Add to that, the pageant-y hairstyle. Nope, Prachi could have done better.
Dia Mirza
The advantage of an awards ceremony here is that our belles can pick from Western and Indian outfits. Dia Mirza combined both forms beautifully in this Shantanu and Nikhil outfit. She always looks so fresh and I’m loving the hair.
Neha Dhupia
Neha Dhupia also went the Indian route but boy, did she do it well! Definitely one of my favourite looks from the night, Neha paired a Payal Singhal crop top/blouse with an Anju Modi skirt. She finished off with Amrapali jewellery and rocked a sexy back.
Kalki Koechlin
Kalki Koechlin likes to keep it traditional on the Filmfare Awards’ red carpet, as she has done previously. This time, she picked a Sabyasachi ensemble in black and gold. The hair was flirty and though she accompanied Gulshan Devaiah, she clarified there was nothing between the two.
Karisma Kapoor
Karisma Kapoor dressed in Anamika Khann couture. While it’s an interesting outfit, I don’t know if it’s working for Karisma. She seems to be weighed down by it and the hair and make-up is too stern. She’s missing the spark and looking straight-jacketed.
Nimrat Kaur
Nimrat Kaur broke away from the popular black and gold and opted for a cream and red Shehlaa saree. Jhumkas and red lips rounded off her look. I think the outfit works with Nimrat’s soft personality and she looks good.
Amrita Rao
Personally, I’m not a fan of Amrita Rao and especially, her sartorial choices. But she did surprise me in this ensemble. This Payal Singhal saree and blouse is working wonders for Ms. Rao.
Konkona Sen Sharma
Konkona Sen Sharma picked a Rohit Bal white and gold floor-length anarkali and paired it with jhumkas and a batwa. She has always had that ethnic vibe and this outfit was right up her alley.
Rekha
Of course, Rekha wore a gold Kanjeevaram saree. And went with bold lips. She kept up with her signature style and I guess that’s about all there is to say.
So, that was what the ladies wore to the Filmfare Awards. Black and gold seemed like the colours of the night. Which were some of your favourite looks and which ones didn’t work for you? Tell us in the comments.
