At a celebrity-packed press conference in Mumbai, the folks behind Lakme Fashion Week announced the line-up of designers participating in the upcoming summer/resort season for 2014.
Team MissMalini spoke to Bollywood actors Ali Fazal, Pragya Yadav and Mandira Bedi – all of whom modeled an outfit as a muse for a designer.
Mandira, of course, was her own muse and looked sizzling hot in one of her sarees.
Here’s what they had to tell us:
KUNAL TANNA & Ali fazal
Team MissMalini: Kunal, tell us about your line for Lakme Fashion Week?
Kunal Tanna: My collection is inspired by the blue pottery of Jaipur. I was extremely fascinated by the intricate patterns, the beautiful blue colours. I’ve developed my textures and fabrics around this theme. It will be a men’s wear line which will be extremely chic and sharp.
Team MM: Ali, what do you like about Kunal’s design concept?
Ali Fazal: It’s damn good. The fact that the idea has been picked up from something in Jaipur, a thing you wouldn’t think about associating with clothes. And suddenly there’s this magic which happens. The blue pottery designs come onto men’s wear which is always been so neglected. Kunal has given it life. I’m loving it.
Team MM: Tell us about Bobby Jasoos and your role in it.
AF: I’m very glad to be a part of Bobby Jassos. I play the lead opposite Vidya Balan, which has been a tremendous journey and we’re now great friends.
Bobby Jassos is a very sweet film. It’s set in Hyderabad. It’s a celebration of human spirit. Unfortunately, I can’t talk much about the role because we have just wrapped-up the film. But I can reveal that it is very different from anything I’ve ever done.
JUNELIA aguiar chandler & pragya yadav
Team MM: Junelia, tell us about your collection for LFW.
Junelia Aguiar Chandler: My collection – which is called Constructed – is all about day-going-into-night. It’s all about slick evening wear. It caters to the Junelia Aguiar woman and starts from the pool side, to a lunch meeting where she goes to sign a large contract, to the races, to high tea, to a night-out with the girls and then her big moment on the red carpet!
Team MM: Pragya, What do you like about Junelia’s line?
Pragya Yadav: I love the ’50s look, which is very different from what you tend to see out there. I love her cuts, which are so perfect, that they fit you like a glove. I also love the fact that her clothes are personalised and not something that you can pick up in a store.
And finally, I love the vintage flair to her modern-day clothing which is so rare to find these days.
mandira bedi
Team MM: Tell us about your line of signature sarees.
Mandira Bedi: A lot of the sarees that I’ve designed so far have not been about excessive embellishments or excessive bling. They are more about colour and fusion of fabrics and different constructs.
So I’ve tried to employ the different constructs that I enjoy wearing and enjoy experimenting with.
It’s defined by fun, bright, happy, summery colour palettes.
