Anushka Khanna’s collections have gone from strength to strength and this time, she’s showcasing her Boom Boom Bloom on Saturday, 15th March at 1:30pm at Lakme Fashion Week.
She says of her collection: ”There were so many references on my mood-board for this collection. I am fascinated by the idea of clothes that really can be trans-seasonal. I wanted to have a collection of updated staples that was applicable for the entire year, and not anchor it to one particular season. I was feeling an Indian summer in New York—sultry, unseasonal weather that demand clothes that are slinky. Barely there slips, soft-to-the-skin pajama dressing and easily-belted kimono jackets over the tiniest shorts, married urban elements with fluid silhouettes.
There was also a moment when Studio 54 came to mind—all that jazzy lame, wrap dresses, sweeping maxis. It was a time of such ease in clothing and that’s what I have tried to capture.
Throughout the collection, a power flower dominates. A photograph of my mother in the Seventies really set off the idea of dark, almost moody florals. I’ve taken that motif through print and embellishment.
The collection again highlights embellishments, cutwork, embroidery, use of colour, and an update on classic silhouettes, which I continue to play with. The placement and geometry of embellishments is also something I have focused on.”
