Dancer, choreographer and television reality show judge, Terence Lewis stars in a new fashion video by designers Barkha & Sonzal where he models their summer collection for 2014, called, The Buddha.

Inspired by rocker David Bowie‘s dark madness, music and eccentricity, the collection consists of funky dhoti pants, summery kurtis, bundhgalas, printed jackets and a cool collection of party wear.

Team MissMalini spoke to Terence and the designers about the making of the video.

Team MissMalini: What is the theme of this film?

Barkha & Sonzal: Through this collection, we want to spread the message that we are all Buddhas. There is a Buddha dormant inside all of us and we need to discover our own light to overcome our fears, anger, depression, addictions etc.

Team MissMalini: Terence, what was your experience of doing this short fashion film?

Terence Lewis: I had a wonderful experience working with these two talented designers and consented to star in it because I loved the concept that they narrated to me. Initially, I was not sure why they wanted me in their film but their implicit confidence in me convinced me that I had to be a part of this experience!

Portraying two extremes that have a range of emotions that are narcissistic, carnal and trippy to a tranquil equipoised Buddha state was not a challenge since I identified with it!

Team MM: Why did you both choose Terence as your model?

B&S: All our collections have always been inspired by dance, music, spirituality and our world travels. An artist needs to experience things from within, all the colors of life, to emote easily and effortlessly. Hence, we chose Terence Lewis, as something about him reminded us of David Bowie. He could also switch emotions quickly and professionally from deep darkness to the real ‘dance of light’.

Team MM: Terence, how do you channel the Buddha on a daily basis?

TL: I accept both parts of who I am – the yin and the yang, the masculine and feminine, the positive and the dark forces! I use both these energies depending on the situation I’m in. I’m fluid and mercurial as a person and like shifting sands I cannot be contained. I feel one with the universe on a daily basis by calling out to the energy forces within me and outside me. I love to sit peacefully and do Kriya Yoga to keep myself connected.

Team MM: What dance form are you performing in the film?

TL: Indian Contemporary Dance with influences of Japanese Butoh were the dance styles.
