Pasty white makeup not withstanding, starlet Veena Malik wore a rather unusual ensemble for the music launch of her upcoming film, Supermodel.

The strapless number, with a frill down the front might, have been interesting if it had ended as a blingy mini dress just above the knees. But with that added net layer, followed by a thick border of circular discs, it was quite the tack-fest.

Sorry Veena, but this is crass, not class. She might grab some headlines with this look… but not the type she was hoping for.

Supermodel Kendra Spears got married to Prince Rahim Aga Khan, the son of His Highness The Aga Khan, over the weekend. For her nuptials, the former Escada model wore a white woven Jamawar saree, embellished with crystals and beads by Delhi based designer, Manav Gangwani. The princely groom was also dressed by Manav, in an ivory hued silk brocade sherwani.

The couple were introduced to Manav Gangwani by none other than Naomi Campbell, Kendra’s catwalk colleague, and she was quick to thank Naomi for the intro!

Ranveer Singh was spotted at Mumbai airport last night, as he was leaving for SAIFTA – the South African Indian Film & Television Awards, which is being held in Durban. For the airport, he opted for a very casual and comfy look, which we really liked! The actor paired cargo pants with a white Johnny Cash tshirt and a blue-grey hoodie. To complete the look, he threw on adidas Originals Samba sneakers and a cap with the Indiana University emblem (IU is his Alma Mater).

Styled by GQ Fashion Editor Antara Motiwala, and shot by Prasad Naik, Singh rocks a kooky hairstyle to complete the visual effect.

Check out this racy video at the making of the cover where he raps, smokes a pipe and ‘frolics’ around with a skimpily clad model. Ranveer lovers… I have given you fair warning. This is hot, and it’s not for the faint of heart!

Actress Asin is the cover girl and model for The Magazine, on Pernias Popup Shop. This being the couture issue, Asin is bedecked in designer ensembles from Gaurav Gupta, Atsu and even Manish Malhotra.

In an interview with Sujata Assomull Sippy, Asin spoke about he strong belief in keeping her look simple and not overdoing jewelry. She says, “While this is the season to dress, remember not to go over the top. If your outfit is statement worthy, let it speak and don’t overcrowd it.”

Niki Mahajan has been in the Indian fashion industry for over 30 years, and her dedication to promoting Indian textiles and handicrafts has earned Niki the directorship of the Fashion Design Council of India for the past 6 years. Her latest development, Reeds, is a new fabric that entails splitting grass and treating it with natural elements, and she’s also reviving badla, a traditional Indian dyeing technique.

For her new couture collection, she drew inspiration from Begum Hazrat Mahal, a historic figure who rose from the ranks of a humble courtesan, into a powerful Begum (after being accepted as the royal concubine of the King of Awadh). The title, Hazrat Mahal, was then bestowed to her after she gave birth to a son, and her place in history was cemented with participation in the 1857 rebellion against the East India Company, and her eventual takeover of the province of Awadh. No small feat for a woman during those times!

These days it’s important for Indian women to draw inspiration from strong figures, from people who struggled and fought at important moments in India’s history. Begum Hazrat Mahal faced many obstacles, and she fought for the rights of her people. It’s that kind of courage led Niki Mahajan to create this line for the modern Indian woman.

Two lovely ladies were spotted, within a day of each other, sporting heavily embroidered ensembles by veteran designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.

While promoting her film Zanjeer, on the television series Bade Acche Lagte Hain, Priyanka Chopra wore a sherwani. Says the designer duo, “The sherwani is part of our Dhaka Collection. The creme palette comes to life in a burst of floral resham embroidery in tangerine. A delicious combination for the divine Priyanka. She carried it off like she does all our clothes – to perfection!”

Then we have Neetu Singh Kapoor, who wore a kurta on dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. The long, off-white kurta with Mughal inspired shahi jaali embroidery, boasts a burst of neon pink, accented with gota work. She completed her look with a sequined border stole, and parallel pants.

You can now buy these limited edition sunglasses called «The Griffin» which are handmade from broken/discarded skateboards! Apparently maple wood is extremely well suited to making sunglasses. The layer of resin on the skateboards give them a natural tint and offers an infinite number of colour schemes. In fact, the graphic designs on the boards have been retained as well!

For each pair of sunglasses purchased, Quiksilver will donate a part of the benefits to Skateisan, an educational skateboard-based program in Cambodia.

Dostana co-stars John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra were en route to the South Africa India Film and Television Awards in Durban and both of them chose to wear black – a pull-over for him and a singlet for her.

There’s this effortlessness about his looks, as if he just picks up items off the floor and throws them on and like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle they tessellate. Case in point being his get-up at the launch of “Aa Re Aa Re” song from Besharam.

So yeah, I did a little digging to find out who the stylist is behind the impressive casual looks – turns out, he doesn’t have any. Yes, friends, that’s all him – and my theory about his dressing up ritual is not too far off, either. Here’s what he has to say:

I don’t have a personal stylist. I pick and wear whatever I find in my cupboard. My mom shops for me, but she still thinks I’m an eight-year-old kid who wears one particular thing. I guess with time and age, you develop your own sense of style.

I take four and a half minutes to get ready; three and a half in the shower and another minute to take my clothes from the sofa where it’s all strewn.

Well impressed I am!

Kareena Kapoor-Khan was at Escobar yesterday to unveil her Filmfare cover. She was spotted wearing a fresh-from-the-runway sari from Soup by Sougat Paul’s LFW collection. I’m glad that Kareena decided to take a break from her usual Manish Malhotra saris and picked something unusual yet age appropriate.

She wore the colour-blocked sari exactly as it was presented on the runway. However, Kareena didn’t tuck her pallu into the straps like the model.

Her hair was pulled back into a bun while subtle make-up kept the focus on her outfit. She was styled by Tanya Ghavri.

I’m in love with this outfit, hope we see Kareena continue to wear younger and fresher designs!

Much has been written about Daisy Shah who makes her debut opposite Salman Khan in Mental. This former assistant to choreographer, Ganesh Acharya, was in the news a few months ago for putting on a few extra kilos of weight, thus delaying the shoot for the film.

However, at Salman Khan’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Mumbai yesterday, Daisy looked rather svelte and statesque in an anarkali by designer Shruti Sancheti.

Says Shruti, “Daisy’s outfit is made of scarlet silk with traditional Maharashtrian weaves on the hemline. The bodice is hand-embroidered. She wears the anarkali with fuchsia khadi pants.”

We particularly like the back of the outfit which has scoop neckline for an added touch of sexiness.
