Randeep Hooda

Randeep Hooda plays a cop in Ahisor Solomon’s latest flick John Day. In the film, he plays a character seeking vengeance against the world. We asked Solomon about Hooda’s look in the film and he gives us some insight into his role.

On Hooda’s look: “His character is very power drunk, flamoboyant and showy. I wanted to accentuate Hooda’s natural animalistic characteristics. I chose denims and t-shirts paired with lots of leather jackets, inspired by Clint Eastwood type characters. I decided to make him look edgy with a hairdo and plenty of gold jewellery such as rings and chains. Even the way he handles a gun, it’s different. He doesn’t put it in its holster – he shoves it in his pocket. I also chose a classic revolver for him to carry.”

On working with Hooda: “He’s like a bad addiction, once you work with him, you just want to work with him all over again. He’s a Director’s actor. He’s always working on bettering himself or improvising a scene. I love that he looks at the larger picture.”

The stars of Grand Masti, one of the most awaited Bollywood sequels, were in promotional overdrive over the past few days because the film releases across the country, tomorrow.

Last evening, they attended a music album launch in Mumbai and from among the leading ladies in the film, actress Maryam Zakaria was undoubtedly the sexiest at this event.

The sultry Iranian beauty wore a fusion adaptation of saree by Shruti Sancheti, in the form of pleated pallazo pants in burgundy cotton-silk with Maharashtrian nath (nose ring) motifs block-printed on it. She teamed it with a gold bustier which had a lace-up back for added sensuousness.

Saskia Debraw

Karl Lagerfeld is known to wield considerable expertise with the camera, having shot many Chanel/Fendi campaigns. This time he shoots a new film with Brit IT girl Cara Delevingne  and model Saskia De Brauw called INVITO PERICOLOSO and we’ve been given privy to the trailer of the seven minute film. Shot in Rome, it also stars Lady Amanda Harlech.

Enveloped in mystery, on a still evening, two elegant young women arrive at a grand, time-peeled mansion to attend a black tie dinner party, invited by a mysterious host. An eerie sensation that’s something’s amiss pervades the girls, as they wait around huddled in their sumptuous fur coats, overflowing suits cases strewn around the stone-flagged rooms. Dinner turns out to be a solitary affair during which they catch a glimpse of their secretive and disquieting host.

Being the perfectionist himself, Karl hand picked the villa and the props himself.

Diandra Soares

A few days ago, we told you that we had spotted model Diandra Soares at event, sporting a bald and beautiful look.

We had a brief chat with her about the reason behind shaving off her locks and here’s what she told us:

“I turned thirty-four years old on the 13th of August and I have always believed in the power of the number 13. This year is 2013 as well. Since I had a bad year last year, I decided to grab this year by it’s horns and make the best of it.

So I celebrated my birthday at the famous Mount Mary Church in Mumbai with family and friends and if you must know, I discovered Mother Mary of the Mount when I was 13 years old. I also discovered Ganesha at that age. And since both feasts come together, it has always been special for me.

So, I had a  new haircut for my birthday. But in early September, I couldn’t deal with taking care of my hair. So I shaved it off to rid myself of the attachment to materialism and vanity. I think this time it was a severe spiritual moment.

Even in the past when I had shaved my head, I’ve never done it for fame, attention or glamour. I don’t worry about whether I get work or not. There are always people out there who will give you work. Besides, being a model is not my only job.

This was purely a decision that was spiritually driven and I’m very happy that I did it.”

Marc Jacobs tee

On the face of it, this T-shirt by Marc Jacobs looks pretty neat and non-controversial to the point of being just another white tee with a graphic print on the front.

But who would have guessed it would evoke memories of a Neo-Nazi rock group from the nineties and thus, create a stir in the fashion world?

Back in 1997, punk-rock group, Skrewdriver, released an album called Boots & Braces and a similar image (of two boots) was used on the cover of the LP. Needless to add, their songs had obnoxiously racist lyrics.

Since then, no one remembered they existed until Marc Jacobs released this T-shirt and rumours began to circulate that the brand was promoting Neo-Nazi propaganda.

Not wanting to offend anybody’s sentiments, Marc Jacob’s has pulled out the offending tee from their stores and released a statement, saying, “We were not trying to make a connection to that band or make a statement of any kind. We have removed the stock of the shirt from our own stores and offer our retail partners the same opportunity.”

However, we hear it’s still available at Saks Fifth Avenue and is priced at $70.

Rocky S (RS): F Lounge is a spectacular hub for partying and what’s a better place than F Lounge to celebrate the success of my newly launched label Rocky Star collection at the Lakme Fashion Week 2013. I am really looking forward to this amazing night of fun and awesome music by my friend Deepesh aka Mr. Right.

TeamMM: Tell us a bit about how the ‘F In Focus’ evening will be themed around you and your work?

RS: The theme is Fashion Orgy by Rocky Star. It is mysterious, powerful and aristocratic, all at the same time. While many associate black with evil, my attempt is to glorify the elegance of the color.

TeamMM: What finger food and beverages have you selected for the special three-day menu? What is the significance of those signature dishes and drinks; how would you call them symbolic of you?

RS: Goat Cheese Smoked Cashew Cigaroll and Hot Wired cocktail is what I have selected for the special three-day menu. Honestly, these are my favorites and that’s why I would say they are on the menu for the special days.

TeamMM: Tell us about your choice of music for the evening?

RS: Progressive house music and fusion of great music by my friend Deepesh aka Mr. Right.

Team MM: Tell us about your LFW collection – what was your inspiration?

RS: This season Rocky Star delineates the dramatic splendor of mystery. The mystery of dark, unfolds itself in subtle affluence, amalgamated in the intricacies of exaggerated textures and layers. Keeping the signature “Black” aligned, the collection renovates the genesis of colour black, recreating the aura of dark medieval age of Fashion which is all about lavishness, seduction, gorgeous contours of femininity.

TeamMM:  If you hadn’t been a designer…

RS: Being artistic and creative from a very young age my only passion was to pursue fashion design so I have never thought of being something else but a Designer.

TeamMM: What’s the one must-have item that should be in every woman’s closet?

RS: Crisp white shirt and Denim.

RS: Don’t follow fashion blindly. Keep it simple yet chic and stylish. Be comfortable in what you wear and carry oneself with confidence.

Gucci’s Bamboo Shopper bag

Trust you all know of Gucci’s iconic Bamboo shopper bag? Often seen on the arms of a host of slebs that include Sonam Kapoor, the Italian fashion house has decided to shill it some more: they have come up with a gorgeous short film called Bamboo Confidential for it.

Shot on location in London at The Savoy, the short – a game of seduction and pursuit – takes viewers back to founder Guccio Gucci’s pivotal beginnings. It was here at this historic hotel, where working as a lift boy in the early 1900s, Guccio was inspired by the new travelling class and formulated the idea to one day launch his eponymous leather goods company. Fittingly, a key scene of the film finds our heroine making a quick change in the hotel’s elevator.

All of Gucci’s social media networks will also dedicate two weeks to the Bamboo story, covering not only the video but also the history and craftsmanship behind the icon. Of special note is an Instagram initiative involving 40 bloggers from 19 countries (which includes our MissMalini!!!), all of whom interpreted the Bamboo Confidential narrative by snapping images of themselves and the bags in elevators throughout the world.

MissMalini in Payal Khandwala AW ’13

MissMalini kick started her fashion weekend in Delhi with a Lunch with Bobbi Brown‘s Marta Preito and some of Delhi’s pretty and powerful women. Dressed in a kurta dress by Payal Khandwala, she played the minimal-bohemian belle look with her usual effervescent ease.

Malini and her stylist played the anti-fit silhouette of the dress in a simple yet effortlessly cool direction. She wore a pair of black flats and carried functional conductor sling, both by H&M.

Amy Jackson at SIIMA Awards 2013

Last week saw a number of Bollywood, Mollywood and Kollywood stars head to the desert emirate of Dubai for the South Indian International Movie Awards 2013.

Among those who won awards were Vidyut Jammwal (Best Actor in a Negative Role for Thuppakki), R. Madhavan (Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Vettai) and Dhanush (Best Actor for 3).

Sonam Kapoor headed to the capital recently to launch of her Filmfare campaign. For the occasion, she picked a brightly coloured sari from the Indian by Manish Arora line that was showcased at Couture week. I just love the heart-print motifs all over the sari and that she chose matching heart-shaped earrings by Yves Saint Laurent from Viange. A low bun and a gold clutch completed her look.
