When I first saw the update, I landed up reading it out aloud, “The wait is over, Forever 21 India’s website is now up and running…” and before I could finish and begin to wrap my head around the good news and get excited, I heard this – “OMG, my life has been revolutionised! Coming this Decemeber! Prabal Gurung for MAC

Stop the fashion presses! Prabal Gurung is the newest designer to join the MAC family. After five years of creating runway faces for the Nepali designer, MAC is going to collaborate with Prabal to create a range of make up for the holiday season.  The deco inspired collection will feature 14 limited edition pieces priced under $100. For those of us who don’t have the wallet to afford one of his divine creations, this collaboration will be the perfect opportunity to get your hands on some Prabal magic. The range will hit stores on November 26^th in America and will be available globally by December this year.

His partnership with Sally Hansen over the past two years has been a huge success, where new nail colours are custom created for his runway shows and are subsequently available in stores. One of the coolest things to come out of the two brands were the pre-polished, press-on nail strips that featured graphic prints from Prabal Gurung collections.

MAC Cosmetics are known for their cool collaboration history with some pretty interesting line ups for 2014.  The Maleficent & Sharon & Kelly Osbourne collections are already in stores, Lorde for MAC will launch in July and there’s one with Marge Simpson due this Halloween! D’oh!

Behind the scenes with Narendra Kumar & SWISS

Narendra Kumar and SWISS International Airlines have come together for the sixth edition of their Fashion – Art calendar. They just wrapped up the shoot and for the 2014/2015 calendar, Lucerne, Switzerland was picked as their location. At MissMalini, we have some behind the scenes access to the shoot and we’re bringing it straight to you!

For the first time ever, they decided to move away from using professional models and used members of the SWISS crew to feature in the calendar. The theme for the year is Swiss Hospitality and is being shot by celebrated photographer, Prasad Naik.

Talking about the theme the general manager of SWISS India, Markus Altenbach says,”The theme of Swiss Hospitality is a perfect match to this year’s calendar. We are proud to say that our hospitality is as legendary as our landscape“. Playing host to the calendar shoot this year was Hotel Palace Lucerne, one of the best hotels in Lucerne standing strong on the lakeshore promenade with picture perfect views of the lake and mountains. About the whole Swiss experience, Narendra Kumar says, “Each visit to Switzerland for the SWISS calendar shoot is a marvellous blend of beautiful locales, glamorous fashion, perfect hospitality and of course fine food & wines!“. And the beautiful models are in awe – of him, the glamorous clothes AND the beautiful set of course.

Earlier this year, Marc Jacobs set Instagram & Twitter abuzz as he announced that he would cast the models for his next campaign through social media. Fashion folk went into a tizzy as the hashtag #CastMeMarc was flung around for every selfie taken and uploaded on the social media platforms. The rules were simple – all you had to do, to feature in one of the Marc by Marc Jacobs advertisement campaign was take a photo of yourself and upload it with the hashtag #CastMeMarc and thats it! More than 70,000 people participated; the winners are in, and this is what they look like in the Fall Winter 2014 campaign.

Another brand that had done this to cast their campaign models was Diesel for their ‘Reboot’ campaign. Karl Lagerfeld did something similar called ‘Walk For Karl‘. I think it’s a brilliant idea, get social with your ads, it makes the buyers happy and it gets the brand the recognition it wants through their seasonal campaigns.

I absolutely loved this one from the campaign.

The first day of July and the magazines are pouring in. So many covers, so many new cover girls (and some boys too). The covers in question here are the July 2014 issues of Harper’s Bazaar India and Vogue India. Sonam Kapoor gets super elegant and looks refined as ever in a Gucci gown on the cover of this month’s Harper’s Bazaar. While on the other hand, Bollywood’s newest darling, Alia Bhatt is all grown up in Narciso Rodriguez on the cover of Vogue. Two of Bollywood’s ‘Girls Next Door’ on two covers; the question is – Which one do you like better?

Didier Grumbach, one of the most influential men in fashion, is resigning from his role of president of the Fédération Française de la Couture, du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode and of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. (Fédération Française & Chambre Syndicale are the governing bodies of the French fashion industry)

The 77 year old pioneer has played a key role in discovering young designers and creating fashion houses, including our very own Manish Arora. According to WWD, his position will officially be taken over in September by Ralph Toledano (former chairman of Chloé) who will be assisted by Stéphane Wargnier (fashion consultant and former director of communication at Hermès)

Didier Grumbach’s contribution to the fashion industry is unquestionable. He is one of the key influencers in the growth of ready-to-wear fashion and responsible for bridging trade gaps between the east and the west. He frequented emerging fashion industries like India and China. In 2007, Grumbach selected Indian 3 designers – Manish Arora, Rajesh Pratap Singh and Anamika Khanna to show their collection at Paris Fashion Week. In an interview with Verve India, Didier quoted, ”Each time that a country emerges so strongly onto the scene, it changes fashion forever. India comes with a very clear message of peace, of femininity and of colour. Very few people realise that there is an expression of fashion which can only come from India but is not necessarily Indian”

When the door closed behind me as I walked into Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s new store in Kalaghoda, I was suddenly transported. All of a sudden I wasn’t in Bombay, I was in an old, grand palace feeling out of place in my skinny jeans and tank. This was a store, but it called for a beautiful lehenga and some vintage jewellery, like the princess who could live here.

The flagship store is spread over two floors and is Sabyasachi’s vision of Indian luxury.  His idea was to build an experience more than just a store. News has come in that after hiring some big names in fashion like Angela Ahrendts, former CEO of Burberry and Paul Deneve, former CEO of luxury fashion house Yves Saint Laurent, Apple has added another fashion biggie to it’s already impressive list. Patrick Pruniaux, the vice president of sales at TAG Heuer has now left LVMH to join hands with Apple. In an interview with CNBC International, a representative of LVMH (of which TAG Heuer is a part) confirmed the news. Watch what he says here…

He also let slip that Patrick Pruniaux will be helping with the promotions of Apple’s upcoming iWatch – another eagerly awaited piece to the world of wearable technology!

The face of Chanel’s Paris-Dallas collection, Kristen dyed her hair a bright orange for a movie she was starring in and after one drastic change, she’s pulled another soon after. With a shorter, floppy hair do, Kristen pulled off the risque do like the rockstar she is. Here take a closer look.

Launched about four years ago with about 90 stores under its roof, Palladium becomes our one stop shop for everything fashion, beauty and lifestyle. So when they finally decided to step into the social media world, we had to be there to watch! To commemorate the day, Palladium erected a life-size Facebook wall on the ground floor of the mall with empty slots with different themes for us to create a post for their page. Last week, we took you behind the scenes with Narendra Kumar and the SWISS Fashion-Art calendar. Launching at the end of this month, the calendar doesn’t feature the regular models. This year, for their 6th edition, SWISS and Narendra Kumar took a different route and decided to cast the crew of SWISS International Air Lines for the calendar.

We got a video of Narendra Kumar himself talking about the challenges he faced while shooting and styling it. He also speaks about his thoughts on crew members as models. Take a look.

Turns out, they hadn’t met the models before the shoot, all they had were pictures and measurements to go on! The photographer, Prasad Naik spoke about the beautiful hotel Palace Lucerne, which has different themes in all it’s rooms and this made it very easy to shoot in.

Chanel Fall-Winter 2014/15 Haute Couture

We expected to be blown away when we first saw images of Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel Fall/Winter Couture show – and sure enough once we were finished, we had several OMG moments. Held at the Grand Palais in Paris, Karl Lagerfeld created a line of modern silhouettes with corseted waists, right-angled shoulders and draped fabrics. He delivered a new interpretation of Haute Couture, one that is both modern and visionary.
Here are 5 things that made us go ‘OMG’

1. Face of the Paris-Dallas collection, Kristen Stewart showed up with a shorter crop of hair and left it orange. The Twilight star rocked the look while being dressed head to toe in Chanel.

2. The Grand Palais was transformed to look like a 20th century Parisian apartment. The combination of blue, gold and white was a complete feast for the eyes.

3. The models took to the runway in ‘des tongs très chic’ – translated as very chic flip-flops and can I just say – I LOVE!

4. Kendall Jenner walked the runway! After Marc Jacobs, the Givenchy campaign, a cover of LOVE Magazine and a spread in Vogue, this is definitely turning out to be the year of Kendall Jenner.
