Zayn Malik Smises On The Cover Of Elle India And We Can’t Keep Calm

Elle India‘s February cover star is none other than Zayn Malik, and we can’t keep calm! We can hear millions of girls screaming with joy, and we’re part of the gang.

The cover has Zayn smising like he usually does and we’re total goners. Kudos to people behind the making of this frame. Fashion Editor Rahul Vijay and celebrity stylist Jason Rembert conceptualised this shot along with the man behind the lens, Ricardo Abrahao. We saw Zayn sporting a sweatshirt from Tommy Hilfiger, that has a slight ruffled V-neck. The cool shave side styled by Larry King set the mood right for the picture.

Whereas for the digital cover we see him wearing an Indian designer, Rajesh Pratap Singh. The monochrome separates looked super cool on him.

The pose, the smise and those beautiful eyes have us swooning. We can’t wait to see the inside picture. What are your thoughts about Zayn’s first Indian magazine cover? Tell us in the comments below.

Priyanka Chopra’s Harper’s Bazaar Arabia Cover Is Super Chic

Priyanka Chopra graces the cover of this month’s Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, and it looks high-fashion from head-to-toe.

Sarah Gore Reeves, who is the Fashion Director at large Harper’s Bazaar TR, styles her for the cover shot in Saint Laurent. The billowy top cinched by the black shorts worked very well in contrast with the furry thigh-high boots. The shot was captured by photographer David Slijper. Celebrity makeup artist Yumi Mori kept the makeup glamorous and celebrity hairstylist Owen Gould played around with her wavy tousled hair.

The super chicness of oversized silhouettes continued in the inside pictures as well. We also loved the juxtaposition of the high-fashion elements to the effortlessness of the poses.

Even the basic combo of white blouse and jeans looks super hot on Priyanka. Though the top hat look is more high-fashion and formal, it still makes for an amazing shot.

TBH, we didn’t expect so much shimmer and shine for Lakmé Fashion Week Summer Resort 2018. The trendsetters have a new story to tell this season. Of course, the easy breezy vibes and experimental silhouettes are a major part of the runway, but designers are adding a dash of glam to everything. We can’t help but love it. Here’s the round-up of the collections that showcased on Day 4 of LFW:

Saaksha & Kinni

Talk about adding a burst of colours to your wardrobe this season and Saaksha & Kinni’s collection will be there for you. The effortless shapes and the drama of the layers got us in the mood. We especially loved their take on the cravat for women.

Elle’s New EIC Has The Best Advice For Working Women

If you’re looking for raw information on what it’s like to be an Editor-In-Chief, an author, a mother, and a team player all at once, you’ve come to the right place. Supriya Dravid, Elle‘s new EIC gives us a low down on the path that lead her to becoming Editor-in-Chief and some of the experiences that molded her journey here. As a working woman who has an endless love for words myself, Supriya Dravid’s story and advice are as real as it gets. Life doesn’t go as planned; career flips are inevitable when you follow your gut, reading is your best friend if you wanna excel—are the few lessons I picked up in this e-interview with her. Read on for more tips from the pro herself:

Take us through your journey of how you got to where you are today.

I love animation and I thought I would become an animator. So my first job was in the marketing and public relations department at Cartoon Network in Delhi in 2001. But then I realised that writing comes more naturally to me than drawing, so I sent in my own interpretation of the alphabet to Aroon Purie at India Today, and I got the job. That was in 2003. There, I found a mentor in my first and former editor Shampa Kamath. India Today schooled me in the best possible way. In the middle, I tried reporting for CNN-IBN for six months in 2007 but I realised I miss print too much. I came back to India Today and stayed there until 2011. That’s when I decided to leave to write my book A Cool, Dark Place (Random House) for a year and a half. When it was published in 2013, I tried writing another book. But I realised that I missed working with real characters and not just imaginary ones. So I went back to journalism. And here I am.

Did you always know you wanted to be an editor at a major publication?

When one starts out as a journalist, being an editor is always a larger goal. So yes, it was aspirational at some level.

Your very first issue as the EIC of Elle has Sonam Kapoor on the cover. That’s an amazing start to this new phase of your career. What would you say is your favorite part of this issue?

I think it was the collaboration with Rupi Kaur and Pico Iyer. It was the first for them and us. In a first of its kind collaboration, we partnered with the youth icon and fearless feminist poet, Rupi Kaur to create a fashion story -painstakingly hand-painted over the course of a month, inspired by her words. Rupi and her team are super kind and accessible. To celebrate this partnership, we have something planned with her in February in Delhi. And with Mr. Pico Iyer, he had never written for ELLE India, and we thought we needed to fix that right away. Since the idea behind the January issue was exploring optimism in this post-truth world, I asked him to write on confessions of being an optimist. The piece was simply sublime. I also felt the conversation between Sonam and Imran showcased a different side to the actor. It was very revelatory. She was very candid and raised a lot of valid points when it came to inclusiveness, gender equality and LGBTQ rights. I also loved our beauty story on the key essentials to keep you happy for the year.

As Editor-In-Chief, what is a typical day like for you?

No day is the same. It’s like being on a treadmill that doesn’t stop. I rise very early—so I try to get in some exercise to get my brain to wake up. I am OCD about time management because we only have that much turn-around time.  My workday begins at 9.30 am when I get into the office. Mondays begin with getting my weekly calendar organised. There will always be a quick edit meeting to recap what’s on the week’s agenda, and a cohesive schedule on closing pages for the week. Before we begin work on our new issues, we sit down, and ideate with the creative director and the fashion teams so that we know what’s happening visually. To give you an idea, we are planning a full redesign with our March issue, and this involved all of us in the team, getting down to two days of brainstorming and ideating on the possibilities. On other days when I am not in the office, it’s about meeting publicists, clients, new designers, photographers—to understand what’s going on in the world and initiate future collaborations. Days—no matter where I am—usually end with me going over the pages that night to make sure that I don’t disrupt the frighteningly meticulous schedule made by ELLE’s managing editor, Serena Menon.

What is the most exciting part of your job? And least exciting?

Everything is exciting and exhilarating. I enjoy everything we do—from conceptualizing stories to putting together shoots, to writing, and discovering new voices, and going over mood boards with my brilliant fashion and art teams. I think collaborating with new voices and what they bring to the magazine is particularly interesting. Budgets are not particularly exciting. But we have to make the most of it, and we do—at least, I like to think that way. As an editor, I not only have to oversee the content in the magazine but also maintain an overarching purview across the digital landscape. At ELLE, we have a wonderful digital team, spearheaded by Rochelle Pinto,  that never loses momentum and is almost always thinking ahead, and of new ways to draw in a newer audience, through Facebook Lives, guest digital editors, and brilliant creative brand collaborations.

How do you typically dress for the office every day?

Comfortably. I am always big on accessories. Nothing is ever too much in that segment for me.

at church

A post shared by Supriya Dravid (@supriya.dravid) on

How was the shift from Fashion Features Director to Editor-In-Chief?

It’s been interesting—and in a way prepped me for my current role. Being an editor in today’s context is different to what it was a few years ago. There are no second chances, no allowing the ball to drop. One advantage of my current role is the opportunity to explore the kind of stories that I would like to read and learn about—from fashion to beauty, and art to literature. There has to be a great deal of negotiation with real-ness, and what one can take away from the stories in the magazine.

A lot of people might not know that you’ve written a book. What an accomplishment! From the snippets we’ve read, A Cool, Dark Place is (for lack of a better word) quite dark. Tell us how this literature came together and what message you wanted to relay to your readers.

I’ve always wanted to write a novel and I did. I just wanted the book out of myself. It took me a year and a half to write it from the start to finish. I had the greatest time writing it. The preoccupation when you are writing a novel is pretty magical. I miss that now. I don’t think I wrote to give out a message. But if there ever was one, it is probably if you want to write a book, do it, don’t procrastinate, don’t wait to go to a writer’s retreat – if you do go, then good for you – don’t wait for that ah-ha moment. Just go ahead and do it for yourself and for the love and respect for the power of the written word.

👊🏾 #bringingupbebe #feministaf

A post shared by Supriya Dravid (@supriya.dravid) on

What career advice would you give to aspiring editors?

Read, write, read, write. Don’t sleep. Always feel you can do better. Never give up, or give in, or be too pleased with yourself.

With you at the helm, what can we expect from the new ELLE?

It’s got to be woke, for sure. ELLE has always had a solid reputation for always being on the forefront of fashion and capturing the zeitgeist of our times—largely due to the two brilliant editors before me, Nonita Kalra, and Aishwarya Subramanyam. I want to build on what they have thoughtfully created during their time here. I’d like ELLE to become the magazine that empowers young women (and men) to think big and fearlessly. Inclusiveness is important. As is the idea of playing with content that makes you want to get out of your comfort zone, think beyond the obvious, and indulge your creative spirit.  Besides genre-bending fashion, cutting-edge think pieces on design, feminism, gender politics, body positivity, identity, travel, art and literary journalism—I am hoping that ELLE becomes the only magazine that gives you your money’s worth for the month. It’s not just about showing a pristine, beautiful, perfect world—it’s also about writing about what makes you queasy, and what’s real. It’s also about adding more voices to the magazine, and a whole lot of content custom-made for our audiences. We want to push the boundaries—when it comes to covers—and work with ideas and thoughts that are relevant in today’s world.

Burberry Changes Their Iconic Plaid Print For The First Time In History To Support LGBTQ

Burberry is known for its iconic plaid design, one that it blends seamlessly with every product they make. From scarves, perfumes, dresses, to trench coats and more. This season of London Fashion Week will be a bittersweet one for the brand. The sweet bit is that Burberry‘s Autumn/Winter 2018  collection will incorporate the colours of the LGBTQ+ emblem in a new rainbow check pattern to show support and encouragement for the community. As for the bitter part, this season will be Chief Creative Officer & President, Christopher Bailey‘s last collection.

He joined the brand in 2001 and has been the reason behind their exponential growth over the years. He’s gone from being a Design Director to the President of Burberry in a span of 17 years and Bailey plans to make his exit in the most iconic way. With this last rainbow-inspired collection, Bailey has understood the importance of inclusivity, acceptance, and unity. The proceeds from the brand will be making donations to the Albert Kennedy Trust, the Trevor Project amongst other organizations that encourage and support the LGBTQ+ communities. He has been the brains behind the brand’s design for as long as we can remember but his exit with the rainbow flag flowing high truly is a, an iconic fashion moment in itself.

“My final collection here at Burberry is dedicated to — and in support of — some of the best and brightest organizations supporting LGBTQ youth around the world. There has never been a more important time to say that in our diversity lies our strength, and our creativity,”

Christopher Bailey says, as seen in an article on WWD.

Here below is the rainbow incorporated design that will be showcased at London Fashion Week at the end of February.

Are you excited to see the whole collection? We absolutely cannot wait!

9 Reasons Why We’re Obsessing Over Sabyasachi’s New Collection

$
0
0

Sabyasachi is one of the most reputable and sought after Indian designers of our time. Many of his designs ooze old-world glamour, strength and classical tones. And this time his SS’18 collection was just that and so much more. He revealed his An Endless Summer collection via Instagram, and let’s say that the internet could not keep its chill.

Although most of the designs was typical of a Sabya vibe, he introduced colour in a way that we’ve never seen. The prints, embroidery and work on the silhouettes proved that he went more bold and strong with this collection. From the kurtas to the lehengas, the patterns and hues were the most breathtaking part. He also reinvented the old songs with a new voice in his video snippets for the different looks in the collection.

The collection really blew our minds and here’s how it will blow yours away in a minute…

1. The location

Whenever I think of Lutyens’ Delhi with its majestic architecture, I think of dusty summer evenings in pre-independent India. I think of ivory muslins, starched cottons, rich pattern brocades and sumptuous embroidery in swirling gold and silver. I have often wondered why? Is it because of those wonderful Merchant Ivory films that I have grown up watching, is it because living in Calcutta never helps you get rid of your colonial hangover, or is it merely a figment of my imagination, triggered off by some forgotten memory from the past? And then I think of the partition. Again and again. Maybe because my father was a partition child. Maybe because my grandmother whispered those tales of survival to all of us gathered around her on sultry summer nights. And I think of the partition again with aching sadness. Men and women scrambling to cross borders, hoarding themselves with all their fineries. Maybe my sense of maximalism stems from the partition and tales of colonial India. 2. The models

3. The designs

The heartland of India wears ‘cheent’. In other words, printed cotton. As I travel down gypsy trails in pursuit of ‘banjaras’, meander through the ‘gullies’ of Benaras or simply take a tram-car ride across central Calcutta, I find cheent everywhere. Amongst gypsies and prostitutes, the common man on the road, the young and the old. It peeps out as box pleated petticoats under humble sarees, decorates the walls of decadent homes, makes an appearance on a battered umbrella, canvas slippers, lamp shades, ‘mem-saheb’ dresses, badly stitched bags or sometimes even as faded café curtains blocking the view of a voyeuristic eye. And therefore, I have an obsession with cheent. It makes an appearance again and again in my collections, almost every summer. This time as summer blooms painted by The Sabyasachi Art Foundation. In hyper-volatile colours. Printed in fine khadi to create languid kurtas and sarees embellished with ‘tilla’ borders. Combined with reflective sunnies, shimmering skin and dangling chandbalis, they evoke a potent and sexual image of a tropical summer. A definite trend for Spring-Summer 2018 is rustic baroque. Humble fabrics like khadi co-existing with sumptuous silks and brocades, prints marrying embroidery, sophisticated florals aligning with peasant stripes. Our khadi saree and anarkali helps you navigate destination weddings with this contradicting essence of neo-luxury. This trend extends to our jewellery as well. Big precious uncut diamonds and tourmalines are threaded together with corals and turquoise beads to create spectacular neck-pieces and teekas that merge serious intent with a whimsical spirit. 4. The jewellery

Blame it on ‘The Sound of Music’ but I find extreme matchy-matchy very endearing. So be brave enough to wear a single colour head-to-toe. Especially if it is in statement yellow. On Her: A hand-embroidered sleeveless yellow body-con kurta is paired with a hand-printed organza dupatta and statement jewellery from the Sabyasachi Heritage Jewelry collection. On Him: A textured yellow raw silk sherwani with house buttons, a matching silk-twill pocket square and a luscious hand-printed organza safa. A twist to our house classic. Destination weddings are quite shaping the future of bridal wear. Taking cues from our heritage, and marrying them to contemporary needs, we at Sabyasachi are constantly redefining Indian bridal wear. ‘An Endless Summer’ is almost a ready-to-wear take on bridal couture. Effortless chic being the buzzword, the clothes are lighter, brighter, measured and sophisticated. Post Anushka’s wedding, the new beauty trend is ‘au naturel’. Colour gets out of make-up completely and dives into clothes. An imperceptible flush on the cheek, glossy and glassy lips, mirrored sunnies, open hair and statement jewellery create the new look. Wear colour with confidence and mash it up with panache. On Her: A ‘Cadmium yellow’ hand-embroidered silk lehenga with ‘tilla’ work detail is paired with an ‘Indian purple’ heritage benarasi dupatta from our Benaras Revival collection. The strong colours are bridged by our iconic ivory textured raw silk ‘kanthi’ blouse. The look is accessorised with uncut diamond jewellery from the Sabyasachi Heritage Jewelry collection. I was eleven years old when I went to see the Gemini Circus. The trapeze artists, the tigers, the galloping horses and even the clown is just a blur in my memory. But I can still smell the turmeric popcorn and I distinctly remember the marquee. It was massive, sprawling across the entire maidan in striped canvas. Red and green. Colourful festoons and fairy lights in every shade of bright, danced and glittered under an evening sky. The thought never left me and I knew one day, it would surface up as an inspiration for one of my collections. Featured here: Women in printed and hand-embroidered silk matka lehengas juxtaposed with floral embroidered blouses in hyper-contrast. The strong graphic look is rain-washed with fluttery organza dupattas in whimsical colours. Big precious uncut diamonds and tourmalines are threaded together with corals and turquoise beads to create spectacular neck-pieces and teekas that merges serious intent with a whimsical spirit. 9. The desi swag

I have an obsession for Shikargah etchings and paintings. And I have an even bigger obsession for Shikargah sarees from Benaras. For the uninitiated, the word ‘Shikargah’ is of Persian origin and depicts a game preserve. Regional flora and fauna and royal hunting scenes are either vividly or abstractly depicted. In our effort to preserve silk screen printing in West Bengal, we created these 29 colour Shikargah prints for our organza sarees. Each saree takes over 9 hours for 2 printers to finish and in today’s time the complication of production easily elevates it to modern couture. Our models are styled with beautiful old world blouses, heritage South Indian jewellery studded with Burmese rubies (from the Sabyasachi Heritage Jewelry Collection) and retro sunglasses for added quirk. Kim K’s First Ever Indian Cover Is Smoking Hot

Kim Kardashian West‘s first Indian cover landed on our feed this morning (say what!?). We’re all geared up to grab our copies and to keep up with this Kardashian through her exclusive interview with Vogue India. The editorial was shot by Greg Swales, styled by our favourite, Anaita Shroff Adajania and the fabulous beauty looks credit goes to celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic, celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton and celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik.

We loved the fact that the different looks that feature in this editorial are so unique from one another. On the cover, Anaita styled her in a red-hot number by Jean Paul Gaultier. Also, the desi twist to this not-so desi shot is her holding on to the tulle fabric in ghunghat style.

Of course, she had her full-on desi moment in the inside pictures. She wore this ethereal lehenga choli designed by Anita Dongre and shoulder-grazing earrings from Estaa.

Taking a total U-turn in another sexy shot, she wore a shimmery ensemble from Falguni & Shane Peacock.

The other bomb cover had her posing amongst the flowers in a sensual black dress by Philipp Plein and statement accessories from Outhouse Jewellery.

With such banging’ looks, isn’t it hard to pick a favourite? Tell us in the comments below if you can choose your favourite one.

Suhani Parekh | Priyanka Chopra | Anaita Shroff Adajania | Masaba Gupta
Suhani Parekh | Priyanka Chopra | Anaita Shroff Adajania | Masaba Gupta

It’s Women’s Day and we’ve been on a bit of a women power streak lately. This new generation of women have overcome all negative notions and have proved themselves beyond doubt in every sphere of life. They have proved their stand in the cumbersome world of entrepreneurship which is absolutely commendable. They have no limits in proving their talent and we love their fierce attitude when it comes to busting their ass with work.

So today, on Women’s Day, let’s honour these 7 powerful women who possess style and substance:

1. Priyanka Chopra

This lady’s got a worldwide appeal but Piggy Chops isn’t done yet. She is the highest paid Indian celebrity and one of the most powerful women in entertainment and media. She’s standing tall right now, but for this one, the sky is the limit.

2. Masaba Gupta

Her kitsch fashion style has appealed to many and isn’t restricted just to clothes. She’s opening stores in every city possible and has explored multiple fashion avenues. From Masaba’s line of makeup for Lakme to designing a line of watches for Titan, she’s striking the iron when it’s hot!

3. Anaita Shroff Adajania

She is one of the leading voices within India’s fashion community and is credited with helping to steer Vogue magazine’s growth as one of the most renowned and fashion-forward publications in India. No one merges films and fashion like she does. Anaita defines fashion in India with her creative instinct.

4. Suhani Parekh

Her jewellery label has made it to the pages of Vogue Paris, Vogue Arabia and has been donned by the epitome of avant-garde style—Rihanna. Her unconventional and edgy design sensibilities have appealed to everyone! She’s bagged awards and managed to achieve so much at a young age.

5. Anita Dongre

She’s nailed that perfect mix of business and creativity. She’s branched out into so many fashion subbrands under her label so much so that Anita appeals not only the classes but the masses. She also offers a big chunk of employment for rural artisan women through her label.

6. Adhuna Babani

She started one of the best salons in the country and created a wide range of premium hair products and even built an academy for learning all the expertise surrounding the mane, she’s achieved it all. No one does hair better than Adhuna!

7. Richa Kar

She was the first one to make good quality lingerie accessible and affordable to the masses. She is the lady behind Zimane.com.

8. Tina Tahiliani

The first one to start selling multiple designers under one roof. Her store Ensemble has grown from a single store into a powerhouse she has built this place which is home to every big and emerging designer in town. Ensemble just completed 30 glorious years in fashion.

Happy Birthday @tinatahiliani ❤ Thank you for always inspiring! #bosslady

Sonam Kapoor Tones Down The Glam For Her Latest Magazine Cover

Sonam Kapoor is known to be the ultimate fashionista in Bollywood. Proof being that she owns a clothing line with her sister, Rhea Kapoor, never shies away from experimenting with fashion and always inspires us with the best OOTDs. Whether she’s being bold and controversial for showing too much side-boob or making a desi statement with her saris, Sonam is one who pulls it all off with ease.

In the March issue of Cosmopolitan India, Sonam shows us a new side to her in a skin-tight bodysuit from Dior. Dressed down from her usual glamorous self, she looked rather sporty. We love this issue as it showed us a real-er side to Sonam. Whether she’s dressed up or down, that girl is always slayin’.

While the cover saw a toned down version of the Aisha actress, the inside pages saw Sonam killin‘ it in a metallic jacket from Dhruv Kapoor, bralette from Saaksha & Kinni paired with FILA shorts.

Glam or basic—Which one of Sonam Kapoor’s looks are you digging? Let us know in the comments below!

The Instagram Account That’s Calling Out Indian Designers For Copying Other Labels

$
0
0
Source: @dietsabya on Instagram

If you haven’t already heard, there is a certain Instagram handle called @dietprada who has been calling out labels who are allegedly copying designs from other brands. This week we discovered that someone has created an Indian version called @dietsabya, giving us info on which designer duped whom. This has (very obviously) caused an outrage amongst the designers who have been incriminated. But we do have to give it to brainchild behind @dietsabya for their amazing recall factor. The witty captions and savage pictorial details is our current lunch table convo (and despite the backlash, it doesn’t look like they’re stopping any time soon).

Check out the accused here:

The Alexander McQueen Dupe

A corset with a buckled-back, exactly like that of McQueen’s—Coincidence or inspiration?

The Shantanu & Nikhil Dupe

It’s never too easy to trace back desi wear to a particular designer, but the case seen below speaks for itself.

The Heidi Klum Dupe

The Project Runway host was seen wearing this shimmy-worthy dress from Lorraine Schwartz in 2014, while Kriti was styled in an extremely similar one recently.

The Manish Arora Dupe

Any one of us could spot a Manish Arora design from a mile away. So, when we came across this skirt, it really got us thinking about the importance of safeguarding creativity.

The Shivan & Narresh Dupe

When one sees bold colours, tropical palettes, and holiday feels, you know it’s Shivan & Narresh. The question now is, are they the only ones who own this aesthetic?

Art has always been subjective—Whether we’re talking about paintings, fashion or music. Every individual translates it in their own way. Now, safeguarding an artistic idea seems rather difficult, which is why the past few months have been a little rough on the fashion industry. Instances of creative plagiarism were brought into the limelight with prime examples being, the Dior controversy with Elle India‘s January issue and the Instagram feud between designers Payal Khandwala and Wendell Rodricks.

Were these designs merely inspired by the biggest names in the industry or was it downright plagiarism? There is a fine line between the two. Tell us what you think this major IDGAF Instagram page in the comments below!

An accessory is the key to jazz up any outfit. You can pick the simplest outfit from your wardrobe but with the right accessories, you’ll be a complete head-turner, no matter where you go. That’s the power of accessorisation and you better believe it! Ceriz, the fashion accessory brand recently showcased its Spring Summer’18 collection at the Bombay Times Fashion Week. We were mighty impressed with how the bags came flying on with runway with the help of drones. That’s not your basic fashion show line up, is it? Way to work aerodynamics into fashion!

But the highlight of the show was Urvashi Rautela‘s strut on the runway flaunting the showstopping accessories from the fun, flirty and glamorous collection of shoes and bags. She said:

The collection offers an empowered sense of glamour and a playful daring spirit. Every range in the line defines the essence of young Indian women.

We admire the wide range of themes that are apt for our summer mood and our month-end pockets! So, make sure you check out Ceriz the next time you want to revamp your accessory closet.

Could you ever imagine a dress in an ice cream form? We couldn’t either. At least, until Pooja Dhingra was involved in the equation. Yup, founder of the Le 15 Patisserie chain in Mumbai and now a famous patissier, she concocted a new way to showcase her culinary skills. For which she collaborated with Magnum to design five unique creations.

Sonam’s Cannes Cascade Magnum Lisa’s Starry Galaxy Magnum Neha’s Floral Favourite Magnum Magnum Pooja’s Signature Magnum

TBH, fashion has never looked so delicious before! Pooja has managed to juxtapose sartorial elements with artistic culinary details to make these delectable treats. Her inspiration was the ensembles of Sonam Kapoor, Lisa Haydon, Neha Dhupia and even Masaba Gupta‘s design. What’s more? Her command on the Parisian style of embellishing desserts came through the intricacy involved in the making of each ornate Magnum. They look so good and tempting! Here are the five deliciously designed ice creams by Pooja that we’re drooling over:

1. Sonam’s Cannes Cascade Magnum

Recreating Sonam Kapoor’s iconic Cannes Ralph & Russo gown is no easy feat. To replicate the intricacy of the florets, the design could only be complete with Pooja’s mastery. We are amazed at how awesome Sonam’s Cannes Cascade Magnum looks, and even she shared her enthusiasm by saying ‘Is it possible for a dress to look so good that you want to eat it up!?’

2. Lisa’s Starry Galaxy Magnum

Lisa Haydon made a statement that Magnum has a new showstopper, and we totally agree with her. Lisa’s Starry Galaxy Magnum is a recreation of Monisha Jaising‘s closing look at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer Resort ’16, and it looks opulent!

3. Neha’s Floral Favourite Magnum

Neha Dhupia’s gorgeous gown by Falguni and Shane Peacock got a delicious makeover with Neha’s Floral Favourite Magnum. The floral embellishments of the outfit were Pooja’s inspiration for the details on the Magnum. Neha was impressed too, as she mentioned, ‘Florals and Magnum, put them together and it’s irresistible’, in her Instagram post.

4. Masaba’s Pink Paradise Magnum

Keeping even the sartorial details like the pleats in mind, Pooja made sure Masaba’s Pink Paradise Magnum made a statement too. The vibrant pink hue aced the essence of Masaba‘s colour play and the gold foil print only amped up that vibe.

5. Pooja’s Signature Magnum

Le 15 Patisserie is known for their yummy macaroons. So, for Pooja’s Signature Magnum, she made mini macaroons to embellish her version. Of course, Macaroon + Magnum = Match Made In Heaven!

Fast Fashion: The Ugly Truth & What You Can Do To Change It

It’s hard to control our shopaholic tendencies when there are new collections dropping almost every few months and that too, at prices that are so reasonable. Part of us loves it but the other part also has us thinking, “How?”. In order for high street brands to pump out collection after collection, they would require that much raw material. And that’s where the Fast Fashion begins! The production, treatment, and discarding of this raw material causes so much environmental damage. So in case, you’re wondering how does all of this affect me and the world I live in? Keep scrolling!

What Is Fast Fashion?

Many of you might not know but the phrase Fast Fashion is a term used by retailers to describe inexpensive clothing collections that have been inspired by Fashion Week catwalks from all over the world, moved quickly to be made available to the masses. The main reason this happens is so that these high street brands can stay on-trend. As a result of this process and the need to stay “IN” with what’s trending, these very retailers degrade the environment with the rigourous manufacturing process of their clothes.

 What Causes The Environmental Damage?

The manufacturing process is what puts the fast in Fast Fashion, which is what causes the most damage to the environment. Let’s take, for instance, some common materials that we all own clothes in. Cotton clothes, for one, are the most common kind, but the vast amount of resources one needs to even create a single t-shirt is quite hard-hitting. For example, the creation of one shirt can use up to 2700 litres of water.  This is just a simple example of a cotton tee. The next step to making clothes is the dyeing process—The chemical waste produced as a result of dyeing clothes has caused rivers to be contaminated with toxins—A prime example being, the Citarum River in Indonesia.

Polyester also is another major element involved in the business of Fast Fashion. When this relatively cheap and easily available material’s production. Every fiber of this fabric used to make clothes causes environmental damage. The cheaply made fibers eventually land up in lakes, oceans and other water bodies causing damage to the aquatic life and the water body itself. Moreover, the microfibres being consumed by these fish eventually make it up to the food chain and could possibly land up on your plate.

These are only of the few materials that are used to make ‘on-trend’ clothes. So, to put it simply Fast Fashion is:

Designer Trends Showcased On The Runway > Designs & Trends Adopted By High Street Brands > Natural Resources & Raw Materials Used To Make Similar Clothing ASAP > Environmental Damage AKA Fast Fashion

Now, imagine this process happening an average of eighteen times a year just with one brand? We’re sure you have your answer.

What Can You Do About It?

What we’ve talked about here is only a drop in the bucket of the world of Fast Fashion, but it’s never too late to change. Try a few of these  ways to make sure your fashion fever isn’t harming the environment:

  • Shop less frequently
  • Invest in more Homegrown labels
  • Learn to Reuse and revamp old clothing
  • Thrift Shopping FTW
  • Tell at least 1 other individual about the consequences of Fast Fashion

But don’t worry—Together, we can make a change!
